Red Beans and Rice Recipe Ingredients :
  • 1 pound dry red beans
  • 1 1/2 cups long-grain rice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (8 ounces) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 4 to 6 strips of bacon
Red Beans and Rice Recipe Instruction:

Wash red beans and place in a 4-quart, covered Dutch oven. Cover with water and cook until tender, adding more hot water as needed. Add rice and cook until rice is tender. In a skillet heat oil, add ground beef, salt, onion, and pepper. Cook until ground beef is no longer pink, then add to red beans and rice. Add tomato sauce and chili powder. Mix well and put ground beef and red bean and rice mixture in a 2-quart casserole or baking dish. Place strips of bacon over top and bake at 350° for 30 to 45 minutes, or until bacon is browned.

Red Beans and Rice with Smoked Sausage
A great red beans and rice recipe to try !
  • 1 pound dried red beans
  • 1 1/2 pounds smoked sausage cut into chunks
  • 1 ham hock or ham bone
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sage
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • salt to taste
  • freshly cooked white rice

Soak red beans overnight in cold water. Drain and put the red beans in a large pot or Dutch oven. Add fresh water to cover, along with the sausage and ham, onion, garlic, thyme, pepper, sage, and cayenne. Bring to boil over medium high heat.
Reduce heat to medium low, cover and simmer until red beans are tender, adding more water if necessary to keep them from drying out. This will take 2 to 3 hours. Add salt to taste. Discard ham bones. Remove about 1/4 cup of beans from mixture and mash; return to Dutch oven and stir. Simmer 15 more minutes.
The red beans is ready to serve over hot rice. Enjoy it !

Southern Red Beans & Rice Recipe

Southern Red Beans & Rice Recipe

  • 1 lb. red beans
  • 1/2 lb. sausage, or more to your taste
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 sections garlic (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons celery
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 1 lg. bay leaf
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper , or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
Put red beans in pot of water and rinse. Remove bad beans that float to top. Drain water off and put beans in deep pot with 8-9 cups water. Bring to boil for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let set for 2 hours. Put back on heat at moderate to slow boil.
Meanwhile, saute in extra-light virgin olive oil, onion, garlic, parsley, and celery. Add sausage to saute. Then add entire sauteed mixture to red beans. Add bay leaf and spices to entire mixture. Boil gently (simmer), stirring occasionally, for 2-3 hours, until tender and squishy. If mixture becomes too thick, add microwave-hot water to thin.
Cook white rice according to directions on box.

Serve hot red beans mixture over rice. The red beans and rice recipe is ready to serve...nice !
